Believe it or not, painting a stone wall is one of the easiest (but messiest) things you can paint because there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Here’s one technique on how to create and paint a stone wall for your diorama or gaming terrain.
Painting stonework is all about layering on the colors. If you screw up, just add some more layers. If something just doesn’t look right, just add some more layers. Try painting wet on wet, and then try to let the paint dry between coats, which can add some dramatic results.
It’s always amazing to me when the last step of dry brushing goes on, and you get to see all kinds of details you didn’t even know were there. As a final step, you can go in and add some mortar lines or color highlights to specific stones to give some sections a a little more detail.
