Last night, I added some detail to the buildings by gluing strips of wood trim around the doors and windows.

One of my goals for this diorama was to create and 3D print as many pieces as possible. Here is the door of the future comic book shop. I left a large opening for “glass” which will be a piece of clear plastic cut from a CD case. The window frames were also 3D printed.

I wanted to add some more interest to the sidewalk to break up all those squares a bit, so I created this set of metal cellar doors. This thing is so thin–it’s barely over a millimeter thick!

After priming the 3D printed objects with some black spray paint, this is where things stand. The left door will be “Monk’s” night club and the right door is Cool & Collected’s comic shop. It helps to have a vision in mind when working on a diorama like this, and I tend to make up story lines as I go, which helps me to really get into the creativity of the process. The story of Yancy Street is starting to come alive!
